Frequently Asked Questions
How do I work out my language level?On the first day of your course you will take an entrance test to assess your level, after which you will be placed in the appropriate class.
Can I change my level once I have started my course?Normally its not a problem. The Director of Studies will evaluate your level and decide whether to move you to a different class.
How many students will there be in my class?Average group size is between 8-12 students. Off season class sizes are smaller offering more personal tuition.In high season class sizes are, naturally, bigger. But no more than 15 in high season and 12 low season.
How many students in total will there be at the school?This varies depending on your chosen location. The average capacity of our schools are between 100-350 students. This again depends on when you book. High season normally reaches full capacity and in certain instances additional premises are rented to accommodate the increase in students.
How many hours of lessons are there per week?Our general Courses normally comprise of between 20-25 hours per week. Each lesson is approximately 55 minutes. Our Intensive Courses comprise of between 30-35 hours per week and run the full day with a break in the morning and then an hour for lunch.
What exactly is included in the price of the course?Generally included in the course is: Tuition as booked, All textbooks unless otherwise stated, materials unless stated, Certificate of Attendance.
Where will I live and how far from the school will it be?This depends on the location. Our homestays in all cities are generally between 10-30 minutes traveling time from school. In bigger cities such as London, Rome, New York, the distance could be around 45 minutes. You can certainly request a host family or a residence as close to the school as possible and we will do everything to try and provide this.
What happens if I am ill?We sincerely hope that your study stay passes without illness. In the case of minor illness or injury, the majority of our schools have a doctor on site to attend to this. In more serious cases, the school can organise hospital transfer. Passport Language STORNGLY advise all students to have insurance. In USA and Australia it is obligatory. What other activities are arranged and how much do they cost?All schools offer a varied and interesting social programme. The programmes aim to offer an insight into the culture of the country you are visiting as well as offering you the opportunity to make new friends and have fun! Some activities are free and some are at an additional cost. All schools have some discount with certain museums, theatres, tourist attractions etc.
Does the course offer the exams I require for my long-term study plans?Our General and Intensive Courses offer a challenging language course with a certificate of attendance on its completion. For recognised exams we offer TOEFL for entry into US universities or Cambridge examinations in English. We also offer world recognised examination courses for French, Italian, German and spanish. Check the course page of your chosen destination for further details. Please note that exam fees are not included in the cost of the course.
Do I get a certificate after the course?On completion of your course you will receive a certificate of attendance. In almost all cases it is obligatory to have attended at least 80% of your classes. |
